Serang Municipality Consumer Price Index Development August 2025

In August 2025, Serang City experienced year-on-year (y-on-y) inflation of 2.28 percent with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 108.34. The y-on-y inflation was due to price increases indicated by rises in almost all expenditure group indices, namely: personal care and other services by 11.14 percent; education by 3.82 percent; food, beverages, and tobacco by 3.29 percent; food and beverage provision/restaurants by 2.65 percent; recreation, sports, and culture at 1.93 percent; health at 1.26 percent; clothing and footwear at 0.43 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel at 0.26 percent; information, communication, and financial services at 0.11 percent; and transportation at 0.03 percent. Meanwhile, the household equipment, appliances, and routine maintenance group experienced y-on-y deflation of 1.13 percent. The month-to-month (m-to-m) deflation rate and year-to-date (y-to-d) inflation rate for Serang City in August 2025 were 0.10 percent and 1.45 percent, respectively.

The commodities that contributed most to year-on-year inflation in August 2025 included: gold jewelry, shallots, machine-rolled white cigarettes (SPM), tomatoes, fried chicken, hand-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKT), and machine-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKM). Meanwhile, commodities that contributed to year-on-year deflation included: broiler chicken meat, gasoline, cayenne pepper, liquid detergent, ready-made cooking spices, powdered detergent soap, garlic, and perfume. Commodities that predominantly contributed to m-to-m inflation in August 2025 included: machine-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKM), foreign language courses, machine-rolled white cigarettes (SPM), maintenance/service, milkfish/bolu fish, hand-rolled kretek cigarettes (SKT), rubbing medicine, dragon fruit, wet shrimp, and domestic helper wages. Meanwhile, commodities that contributed to m-to-m deflation included tomatoes, cayenne pepper, oranges, chicken eggs, gasoline, laundry fragrance/softener, apples, jengkol, tilapia, and shampoo.

In August 2025, the expenditure groups that contributed to y-on-y inflation were: food, beverages, and tobacco at 0.95 percent; personal care and other services at 0.72 percent; food and beverage provision/restaurants at 0.35 percent; education at 0.22 percent; housing, water, electricity, and household fuel at 0.03 percent; health at 0.03 percent; recreation, sports, and culture at 0.03 percent; clothing and footwear at 0.02 percent; information, communication, and financial services at 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the expenditure group that did not contribute to national y-on-y inflation was the transportation group. The household equipment, appliances, and routine maintenance group contributed to national y-on-y deflation by 0.08 percent.


In August 2025, the y-on-y inflation rate in Serang City was 2.28 percent and the y-to-d inflation rate was 1.45 percent. The y-on-y inflation rate for August 2024 and August 2023 was 2.33 percent and 3.28 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, the y-to-d inflation rate for August 2024 and August 2023 was 1.50 percent and 1.34 percent, respectively.
