Abstract

  • The poverty rate of Banten Province as a result of the National Economic Socio-Economic Survey (Susenas) in September 2018 was 5.25 percent, an increase of 0.01 points compared to the previous period of 5.24 percent. This is in line with the increase in the number of poor people by 7.38 thousand people from 661.36 thousand people in March 2018 to 668.74 thousand people in September 2018. 
  • The percentage of poor people in urban areas which in March 2018 was 4.38 percent, down to 4.24 percent in September 2018. While the percentage of poor people in rural areas in March 2018 was 7.33 percent, up to 7.67 percent in September 2018. 
  • During the period March 2018-September 2018, the number of poor people in urban areas fell by 11.67 thousand people (from 393.80 thousand people in March 2018 to 382.13 thousand people in September 2018), while in rural areas rose by 19, 05 thousand people (from 267.55 thousand people in March 2018 to 286.60 thousand people in September 2018). 
  • The role of food commodities on the poverty line is far greater than the role of non-food commodities (housing, clothing, education, and health). In September 2018, the contribution of the Food Poverty Line to the Poverty Line was recorded at 71.60 percent, slightly lower than the March 2018 condition which was 71.66 percent. 
  • The types of food commodities that have a major influence on the value of the Poverty Line in September 2018 in urban and rural areas are rice, filtered clove cigarettes, broiler eggs, chicken meat, instant noodles, bread and ground coffee and instant coffee (sachets). While non-food commodities are the biggest contributors to the poverty line in urban and rural areas, which are the same, namely the cost of housing, gasoline, electricity, education and toiletries.
